Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this course for?

Anyone who works with, wants to work with, or who spends any time at all with children aged 3 - 5.

I've never taught using drama before...

We have over 15 years’ experience of training individuals, who often have no formal drama experience, how to use our techniques. We have a down-to-earth approach and have carefully structured the course to enable individuals to gently build confidence and expertise. In no time at all, practitioners realise that there’s nothing to be nervous about, and that drama is in fact, just another word for play.

What will I learn and what skills will I develop?

You will:

  • Experience an increased confidence when reading stories, singing songs, leading music and movement activities, and supporting children in their imaginative play
  • Develop strategies to support social and emotional well-being
  • Learn how easy it can be to lead large groups of children in energetic, imaginative games that don't result in a chaotic classroom and do result in children learning self-control while developing their physical skills
  • Learn simple techniques that support classroom management and utilise every learning opportunity

What's included?

A year's access to:

  • 36 pre-recorded lessons which include teacher demonstrations
  • A series of 'challenges' for practitioners to put what they learn into practise both at home and in their setting
  • A workbook outlining techniques and giving step-by-step guides to facilitating our games and classroom management strategies
  • A resource pack of 10 original drama games
  • 7 bonus videos demonstrating how to apply techniques to multiple themes
  • Regular live online support sessions via The Pyjama Drama Learning Academy
  • Expert advice via email
  • An online support network

Plus! A free one-to-one webinar at any time!

How is the course structured?

This is an online course, with opportunities to tailor your learning alongside our experts...

1. Watch our pre-recorded, online lessons here in our learning hub, at your own pace, and try out our techniques as you go along.

2. Join online tutorials and Q&A sessions in our Learning Academy on Facebook.

3. At any time, book a free one-to-one with co-founder Sarah Owen, via webinar or phone.

How long does the course take?

You can choose to complete the course over a period of time that suits you and your other commitments. Plus, you have access to the pre-recorded lessons for 12 months so you can re-visit lessons whenever you like.

The 36 lessons are typically less than five minutes long each. If you were to watch all lessons in one go, it would take you around 2.5 hours but this, of course, is not the intention. Rather, we'd like you to watch the lessons and complete the challenges we set as you go along so that you gradually build your skills and confidence.

As a guide, 16 weeks is perfect if you feel you don't have a great deal of extra time in your week and need to fit your learning around other commitments. Taking the course over 16 weeks would look like this:

Before you begin: Set aside 30 minutes to get prepared (watch the introductory lessons, download your included resources and join the Learning Academy on Facebook)

Weeks 1 - 16, every week:

  • Spend a maximum of 10 minutes watching pre-recorded lessons
  • Complete one challenge in your setting* - allow 15 minutes to plan, and 15 minutes to complete your challenges each week

*Two of your challenges are home tasks, but the other 14 you will need to complete in an early years setting. Examples of these challenges are playing a Pyjama Drama game, using one of your new techniques to manage transitions, or delivering a nursery rhyme using your new skills.

How do I access the course?

The course is accessed via this platform, which we call our online learning hub. When you enrol in your course, you will be asked to set up an account using your email address and secure password. You will use these details to log in to the learning hub whenever you wish to start a new lesson.

Note: Those purchasing the course for multiple practitioners will be sent the required number of logins to the online learning hub, via email.

How do I access tutorials and support?

  1. You will be invited to join the Pyjama Drama Learning Academy on Facebook. This is where regular (usually weekly) live support/training sessions take place. These sessions can be watched back at a later date if you wish. Likeminded practitioners, and the Pyjama Drama team, hang out there too so there are always people around to ask for support.
  2. At any time, you can claim your one-to-one tutorial with Pyjama Drama founder, Sarah Owen, by filling in this form on our website.
  3. You can also email Sarah at anytime ([email protected])

Practice at home. Your kids will love everything you bring back to them. I have nothing but great things to say about Pyjama Drama and the instructor, Sarah. 10/10 would recommend!!’ Cici

Recommend to anyone working in early years

'I'm so glad I did the course. Not only to broaden my delivery, technique and a new skill set, but it gave me a little bit more confidence in myself. It was a bit of 'me' time in a subject that I'm intrigued about. Would definitely recommend to anyone working in early years, or to parents who want to unlock imaginative play potential hidden in yourselves.' Claire Williams, Wildchild Officer

Would definitely do more!

‘Very informative and helpful. A viable alternative to in-person workshops. Lots of individual feedback, small group work. Instructor was very well prepared, knew the technology and her material. Would definitely do more!’ Rosemary Gagner

A self-esteem booster for sure!

'I have absolutely loved the course. My fear when becoming a teacher was that I wouldn't be confident enough to be big and silly and find ways to engage the children within their play and learning, so to have these games and ideas to support the children is amazing. The course is incredible, massively supportive and a self-esteem booster for sure! I would highly recommend for any new and aspiring teachers or any experienced teachers that want to connect with new ways to engage their children, brush up their skills and encourage the lost imagination of children.'  Millie Tyerman, BA Early Childhood Studies, Northampton
